From Screen to School

Neri Miranda, best known to Filipino audiences from her work in television and film, enrolled in the ETEEAP program at the University of Baguio in March 2021. Less than 14 months later, she was dressed in academic regalia and posing for graduation photos on the university grounds.

The University of Baguio confirmed the milestone through their official Facebook page, announcing that Miranda had visited the campus on April 19, 2022, for her graduation photo shoot. The university’s post read: “Ms. Nerizza Miranda, an SBAA ETEEAP student visited University of Baguio yesterday morning for a graduation photoshoot. She joined the program in March 2021 and is expected to graduate in May 2022. Indeed, a proud UBian!”

The post was warmly received by the university community and by fans across the country who had followed Neri throughout her entertainment career.

A Graduation Photo That Said It All

On April 23, 2022, Neri took to Instagram to share her graduation photo with a single word and a heart emoji: “Finally.”

That caption, simple as it was, carried the weight of years of personal ambition. For many Filipino professionals, finishing college is a goal that gets deferred by work, family, and life circumstances. Neri’s story resonated precisely because her journey was relatable. She was not a traditional student sitting in a classroom for four years. She was a working professional, a wife, and a mother who chose to pursue her education through a program designed for people exactly like her.

Chito Miranda’s Proud Reaction

The frontman of the iconic Filipino rock band Parokya ni Edgar, Chito Miranda, was among the first to publicly celebrate his wife’s achievement. He appeared in the background of Neri’s graduation photo, visible throwing up a peace sign, and left a congratulatory message in the comments section of her Instagram post: “Congrats, Ms. Neri!!!”

The lighthearted moment captured the support and encouragement that many ETEEAP graduates rely on from their families throughout the demanding assessment and enrichment process.

What Is ETEEAP and Why It Matters

The Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program is a government-recognized alternative pathway to earning a college degree in the Philippines. Instead of requiring applicants to go through four years of traditional schooling, ETEEAP evaluates the knowledge, skills, and competencies that an individual has already developed through years of professional work experience.

Once admitted, applicants undergo a rigorous assessment process that typically includes portfolio evaluation, written examinations, practical demonstrations, and an oral defense before a panel of internal and external assessors. Gaps in competency are addressed through a competency enrichment program, after which candidates are awarded the appropriate academic degree.

The degree earned through ETEEAP is fully recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and carries the same weight as a degree earned through conventional college enrollment. Graduates are eligible to take board licensure examinations for applicable professions and may proceed to graduate school.

How Neri’s Story Can Inspire Your Own

Neri Miranda’s graduation was more than a personal triumph. It was a public demonstration of what ETEEAP is truly for. The program exists for people who have built real careers, real expertise, and real lives but never had the formal certificate to show for their academic abilities.

Neri enrolled in March 2021 and completed her degree requirements by May 2022. Her Business Administration degree from the University of Baguio stands as a legitimate, CHED-recognized credential, earned not by sitting in lectures, but by having her extensive professional experience assessed, validated, and formally accredited.

Whether you are a working professional who had to stop schooling to support your family, an OFW who built years of industry expertise abroad, or a skilled worker who has always wanted to formalize your knowledge, Neri’s journey shows that the path to graduation is open to you.
